MC#2 Homework assignment -Growth Mindset practice
I have been trying to apply growth mindset with my kids over the last 2 months, especially in the way I praise them. I had a nice opportunity when they got their reports from school at the end of term 2.
Reflection Questions:
How did it go?
What worked well?
What did you learn?
What can you improve on the next time?
I found that when I have more time to think about it, for example while I am reading their reports, I can come up with solid wording for praising their effort and the process rather than their achievement. But when they do something and show me in passing, i.o.w. I don't have time to thinks, my natural response is still to praise the result...and when I try to think of different wording to praise the process I struggle and stumble over my words. After trying to do this for 2 months, I still do not see a change in my children's willingness to do hard tasks or enter into a game where they think they will loose. I can honestly not say that it has improved their resilience yet.
So I learned that 1) This isn't or natural as it seems. 2) It takes time to change - for me and how I praise them, and for them to build resilience and be willing to do hard things.
What I can do to improve is to really go write down some phrases that praise the process and effort and read them often so that I can develop the vocabulary and unlearn praising achievement.
